A design very similar to the adopted type, but with a larger date logotype and the reverse numerals are smooth rather than ribbed. One of the best "introductory" pattern issues, as it is listed as R-4, which estimates somewhere between 76 and 200 examples produced. The presently offered example ranks among the FINEST extant in any designation--and is currently the highest numerically graded at PCGS. Deep, boldly reflective mirrors beam from icy smooth surfaces. Longacre's design devices are well struck and frosty providing an impressive cameo contrast. The mostly silver-nickel color is enhanced by the slightest trace dusting of peach-champagne iridescence. We think this coin has several layers of collector interest: advanced 3CN collectors, as well as pattern collectors will be enticed to bid on this GEM.
