- The 1921 Buffalo nickel is often seen with a sharp strike and this high-end Superb Gem does not disappoint in this area, as all design elements are crisply detailed from a precision blow from the dies. The lustrous surfaces are essentially pristine, free of any distracting marks and the brilliant, untoned nickel silver is as vibrant as the day this coin came off the dies. The Philadelphia Mint reduced Buffalo nickel output by 52.4 million coins between 1920 and 1921. Despite the significantly lower mintage, 1921 nickels are available through MS-66. On the other hand, this issue becomes notably scarce in Superb Gem Mint State, as offered here.
