- 1908-S Barber Quarter. MS-64+ (PCGS). This is an exceptionally well preserved example of the scarce, conditionally challenging, semi-key date 1908-S quarter. Bathed in soft satin luster, both sides are further enhanced by wisps of reddish-gold iridescence around the obverse periphery. Virtually full in strike with silky smooth surfaces, this coin will please even the most discerning specialist in Barber coinage. In a series replete with challenging mintmarked issues, the 1908-S stands out due to its limited mintage of 784,000 pieces. Like most San Francisco Mint issues of this type, the 1908-S saw extensive circulation that resulted in the loss of most examples. Survivors are scarce in an absolute sense, and most are well worn from decades of commercial use. With Mint State examples of even marginal quality elusive in today's market, the present offering for a solidly graded and aesthetically pleasing example should not be overlooked.
