- Lovely Proof 1885 Silver Dollar
1885 Morgan Silver Dollar. Proof-65 (PCGS).
This beautifully toned specimen exhibits vivid olive-apricot throughout the obverse that is tightly confined to the border on the reverse. Isolated peripheral areas are further enhanced by pretty pink and powder blue iridescence. The strike is sharp, and the finish is highly reflective. Proof silver dollar production in the Philadelphia Mint amounted to 930 coins in 1885. This is one of the more generous totals in the Morgan series, and the 1885 is readily obtainable by the standards of the type. On the other hand, the typical survivor grades no finer than Proof-64, confirming the elusiveness of this issue in the finer Proof grades. The impressive Millholland provenance and stunning eye appeal further enhance the desirability of this noteworthy Gem.
