- Warmly toned in medium brown with steely-olive outlines to the design elements, the obverse contrasts somewhat with a reverse that is evenly patinated in olive-brown. Both sides offer good gloss and a pleasingly smooth appearance in hand. Only upon closer inspection do we see a few light, well scattered handling marks and pits on both sides, none of which warrant individual attention; planchet lightly flawed at 10:30 on the obverse border. Most of the finer features in the sun's face and rays has succumbed to wear, sundial likewise at lower right, but otherwise plenty of bold definition remains in a VF Fugio. While a number of nice EFs are known, this Newman number seldom comes any finer than seen here, and this will certainly be a respectable addition to many specialized cabinets.
