1899 Liberty Quarter Eagle. Proof-63 Deep Cameo (PCGS). Boldly struck with sharp frosty devices and glittering mirror fields. The fields on both sides display the Philadelphia Mint's distintive orange-peel texture so highly admired by students of U.S. Proof gold coinage. Mirror brilliance can be seen between the vertical elements of the shield on the reverse. Only 150 Proofs are said to have been struck, which seems reasonable in light of population report statistics compiled by the two major grading services. A relatively small portion of the Proof population are certified as "Deep Cameo."
