- 1887 Gold Dollar. JD-2. Rarity-5. Low Date. Proof-64+ Cameo (PCGS). Quite impressive in Proof, the cameo surfaces provide excellent contrast and wisps of orange-pink add to the excellent eye appeal. For pedigree purposes, several squiggly mint-made lint marks are seen on the reverse; quite possibly the result of the reverse die having been recently cleaned with a wire brush. Mintage of 1,043 pieces in the Proof format, only a small fraction survive today, fewer still offer the desirable Cameo contrast present here.
