Peck-1745; Freeman-133. Victoria. Obverse: Young laureate bust of Queen left, No signature on bust, toothed border both sides. VICTORIA D:G: BRITT: REG: F: D: <I>Reverse</I>: A thinner, helmeted Britannia, seated on rocks, date in exergue. The portrait and reverse design is frosted against full mirror proof fields, with a sharp rim. Peck describes this piece as 'extremely rare,' Freeman designates 'Rarity18.' The proof bronze pennies of this period are rarely encountered in any grade. In July 2003 (lot 302) an 1891 Proof Penny in the Colin Adams sale fetched &pound;1518 (appx $2450).
