FROM THE INCLINE COLLECTION This is the SINGLE FINEST graded example of this popular, transitional variety. In 1938, the reverse die had "wavy" steps to Monticello, while starting in 1939, the design was reworked to have "straight steps." A number of 1939-dated nickels were struck using the first subtype reverse. Brilliant nickel-silver surfaces have a steely iridescence that radiates strongly on SUPERB quality surfaces. Wonderfully clean fields surround the sharply struck devices. The eye appeal is magnificent. PCGS 1, NGC 0. This is the ONLY 67+ FS at either service, and it holds the record for the date having realized $5,288 in February 2014. That was the only auction record for this coin.
