- 1856 Braided Hair Half Cent. B-3. Rarity-4. Proof-62 RB (NGC). Bright rose-pink surfaces exhibit faintly frosted motifs and reflective fields. Moderate hairlines and scattered tiny flecks account for the assigned grade. Breen's Encyclopedia (1988) relates a Proof mintage for the date of "200+" pieces, a somewhat sizeable figure that no doubt accounts for today's Rarity-4 rating. PCGS# 1330.
