- Richly toned in warm, even slate gray. The surfaces are lustrous with a soft satin texture that is smoother than one might expect at the assigned grade level. Evidence of die fatigue is seen at the peripheries, where the detail is generally a bit soft, but the diagnostic obverse die crack of the O-102a attribution is discernible with patience. The central design elements are pleasingly sharp. This coin is tied for CC#5 for the 1812/1 O-102a die state in the Spring 2025 revision to Stephen J. Herrman's AMBPR for Bust half dollars.
