1798 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. Heraldic Eagle. B-6, BB-96. Rarity-3. BB Die State IV. Knob 9, 10 Arrows. EF-45 (NGC). Medium gray with a few deeper gray patches scattered about both sides of this impressive early dollar. The strike is sharp enough, and the surfaces smooth with minimal signs of handling. Moderate adjustment marks are noted on the reverse, where the planchet was nudged back into the proper weight tolerance range prior to striking. Of the eight Knob 9 varieties, this is one of the more available die pairings, but is still scarce overall. The Knob 9 punch was soon replaced with the pointed 9 style, which is far more available on 1798 silver dollars.
