Amazing Superb Gem Mint State 1942 Half Dollar Beautifully Toned and Very Close to Perfect 1942 Walking Liberty Half Dollar. MS-68+ (PCGS). CAC. This incredible example really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated. Both sides exhibit simply outstanding toning, the reverse featuring a seamless blend of iridescent powder blue, golden-apricot and reddish-orange. The right two-thirds of the obverse is brilliant, while the left periphery is adorned with a bold arc of multicolored iridescence that includes steel-rose, sea-green and salmon pink. The surfaces are intensely lustrous, the strike is full, and the preservation is at the threshold of perfection. Trailing only the 1943, the 1942 is the second most plentiful Walking Liberty half dollar issue in terms of total number of Mint State coins extant. It is also readily obtainable in Gem Mint State, and thus is very popular for type purposes. We offer here the single finest example of the issue known to PCGS. It is an outstanding condition rarity for the entire series, as well, for PCGS has bestowed the MS-68+ grade on only 10 Walking Liberty half dollars, half of which are 1939 Philadelphia Mint coins. None have been certified finer by this service.
