A jewel of a coin with undeniably original, exceptionally well preserved surfaces. The obverse offers fabulous toning with a target-like distribution to antique gold, powder blue and mauve-gray colors. The reverse is more reserved and shows soft sandy-gold peripheral color around a brilliant center. Sharply struck in most areas with a smooth satin texture, this coin is sure to have no difficulty finding its way into a high quality type set. The 1838 is one of the more frequently encountered early date Liberty Seated half dimes in Mint State, but strong demand for the brief Stars Obverse, No Drapery design means that premium Gems such as this are rare both in an absolute sense and from a market availability standpoint.
