- 1788 Connecticut Copper. Miller 1-I, RR-39, Bressett 25-U, W-2265 & 4400. Rarity-5. Mailed Bust Right, Small Head. Fine-12 (PCGS). 103.3 grains. Choice dark chocolate brown with smooth glossy surfaces, with just a trivial area of shallow roughness at the face of the obverse portrait. Unusually nice looking for a Ryder-39, which practically never come with nice smooth surfaces. Struck on an unusual ovoid planchet that manages to fit almost all of AUCTORI CONNEC in place, along with ET LIB and the tops of the date on the reverse. The central reverse, though soft, is not a blank as is sometimes seen with this oddball Machin's Mills muling. A very nice item for an advanced Vermont, Connecticut, or Machin's Mills collection.
