- 1806 Capped Bust Right Half Eagle. Miller-75, HBCC-3095, BD-1. Rarity-4. Pointed Top 6. MS-61 (NGC). Bright and lustrous yellow-gold features with bold olive highlights on frosty motifs and reflective fields. Nicely struck for the design type, and a pleasing coin for the grade with no serious marks to mar the viewer’s enjoyment.
One of five Pointed Top 6 varieties of the date, with the present variety known to the tune of about 100 to 150 pieces in all grades. 1806 half eagles are popular with type collectors, as the date can be found in attractive condition and is available enough across the grading spectrum -- from modestly circulated to Gem Unc -- that most collectors can acquire an attractive example without much difficulty. For the specialist, the present piece represents Bass-Dannreuther Obverse State b, "now crack joins star 1-star 8, although intermittently;" Reverse State e, "same but farther advanced cud above (E)S and space right;" several other die states are listed in the reference.
If a high quality early half eagle with excellent eye appeal is on your list of coins desired, we suggest the present piece may just put an end to your search. As the winning bidder you will treasure this coin for a long time.

Numismatic Reflections by Q. David Bowers
A very attractive example of this obverse star arrangement. Usually identified by the shape of the top of the digit 6 but, in my opinion, the star layout is more important—although it takes longer to describe. I have noted the same under the Knob 6 pieces in this sale. With our nice selection you can bid on one of each and have a complete “set.”
