This is a wonderfully preserved GEM with a great, totally original look. While a "common" date with a mintage of 1,458,000, this date is quite challenging in this grade and VERY RARE any finer. A rich, thick, satiny mint frost belies a gentle, even dusting of pale blue, rose, gold, and apricot iridescent toning. Struck from a dramatically cracked reverse die, most of the details are crisp in the centers, and display just a hint of bluntness in the date, letters, and stars. The surfaces are very clean and devoid of any distracting marks, even when viewed with the aid of a strong glass. The eye appeal is exceptional for the grade assigned and clearly worthy of the CAC bean. PCGS 39, NGC 18, CAC 17. The last PCGS MS65 CAC sold two and a half years ago, realizing $2,468 in our Regency Auction 37. While PCGS lists MS65 at $2,250, it jumps by more than $10,000 in MS66 to $12,500. Only seven examples have graded finer at PCGS. This remarkable GEM is worthy of close inspection and consideration from the advanced collector. Take a look and bid accordingly! Cert.
