From our sale of the Haig Koshkarian Collection, where we described this piece as follows: "A satiny brilliant yellow gold specimen with intense cartwheel lustre and an overall appeal that bespeaks a far finer grade. A sharply struck and thoroughly appealing example of our nation's first gold coinage. Indeed, the present specimen is so fresh and crisp that it could very well have been struck by the Gallery Mint (a private enterprise that makes quality modern-day replica coinage of some of America's greatest rarities; fortuitously for today's collecting community, the folks at Gallery Mint mark all of their coins COPY). The eye appeal here is extraordinary, especially for the assigned grade, and the strike is as full and bold as one is apt ever to see for this issue. If such a thing as a 'gem' MS-62 coin exists, the present specimen is an ideal representation thereof! Simply gorgeous." This coin looks just as fresh and surprisingly beautiful for the grade as before, a frosty piece whose numerical grade does not tell the whole story of its desirability.
