Only 1,000 circulation strike trimes were produced in 1872 and they are, unsurprisingly RARE in any Mint State grade. Even in a modest grade like MS63 offered here, only two PCGS-graded examples have sold in auction, ever! The present CHOICE example is richly toned with warm pewter-lilac hues that are accented by satiny fields and dusted over the sharply struck devices. Graded long ago, this coin remains in an old green tag holder, and we are not sure why CAC did not bean this lovely coin. PCGS 4, NGC 7. The most recent one sold in the 2018 ANA auction for $4,320 and prior to that, this coin sold way back in 2005! With Gems bringing five figures, this example is a great value for anyone looking for a totally original example, The Collectors Universe value is $4,500 and we think that level might fall when this one sells. Good luck. Cert. Number 1585370 PCGS # 3693.00
