 - 46.0 grains. Unusually light for the type, due to excessive clipping that has removed much of the obverse periphery from 3 to 8 o'clock outside the inner beaded circle, reverse border through the center of the peripheral legend all the way around. Wear is very heavy in the center of the obverse, where much of the tree has been lost, also at the upper right reverse, although the date digits are generally bold, denomination complete. Of the tree all that can be discerned is a portion of the root structure which, when taken with the letters ATHV in the peripheral legend is sufficient to confirm the Noe-14 attribution. Surfaces are dark steely charcoal-gray, few tiny and widely scattered marks, but no singularly mentionable distractions. The popular Spiny Tree variety is generally regarded as the last of the Oak Tree shillings produced. The obverse die is the same as that used to strike Noe-13, although for Noe-14 it has been extensively reworked to include a thicker trunk to the tree and thorns, or spines, on the branches.
