- 1878-CC Trade Dollar. AU-55 (PCGS). An attractive and desirable example of this scarce Carson City issue. A medley of powder-blue and olive gold hues paint the surfaces of this original piece, complemented by significant satiny luster remaining in the protected areas. Sharply struck and only lightly worn across the high points. The 1878-CC has a mintage of just 97,000 pieces, far and away the smallest circulation strike mintage in the series. On July 19, 1878, some 44,148 trade dollars were melted; it is presumed that they were all pieces dated 1878-CC, leaving a net mintage for the issue of 52,852 pieces.
