- THE BOYLSTON COLLECTION A CLASSIC RARITY. Remarkably well struck for the variety. Most extant specimens are weak on the left lower portion of the eagle’s body (as made). This coin is fully struck throughout! This piece has a ton of luster for the grade that is not subdued in spite of the pretty apricot toning blanketing the obverse and reverse. WB-2 Rarity-5. Large O mintmark. One of just two die pairs used to strike this rare Small Date, Small Letters issue. This variety represents the second and final use of the obverse die and the only use of the reverse die in 1842. PCGS 1, NGC 0. A scant mintage of 203,000 coins made this issue a destined rarity from the day it was coined. PCGS Price Guide is $21,500. Just two other mint state specimens are known, both are MS-62 and graded by PCGS. One is the former Gardner Collection piece and the other is from the Louis Eliasberg, Sr Collection. The last time this piece appeared at auction was in 2016 (a much weaker market) where it sold in March for $11,750. Deserving of a world class collection. Bid like this is your last opportunity to own this date in Mint State for a long time to come, for it probably is! Cert. Number 3814228-005 PCGS # 6238.00
