- 1857 Flying Eagle Cent. Type of 1857. MS-66 (PCGS). A beautiful tan-apricot Gem with wisps of enhancing reddish-rose iridescence to both sides. The strike is sharp, the luster satiny, and the surfaces are expectably smooth for the assigned grade. Minor clockwise rotation to the reverse is an interesting feature. Our multiple offerings for such coins in this sale notwithstanding, certified MS-66s for both the 1857 issue and the brief Flying Eagle cent design type are decidedly scarce in today's market.
