Already emanating from an increasingly popular series--that of the brief coinage of the French-backed Austrian Prince-turned Mexican Emperor, Maximilian--this enchanting Mint State survivor offers a delightful steely gray tone with some charming luster residing in the fields and some russet toning nearer the peripheries. Featuring a difficult and VERY RAREmint for the type, this example is exceeded merely by one specimen at PCGS with the single finest, an NGC MS-66 from the Pat Johnson Collection, realizing an astounding $72,000 in our January 2022 NYINC auction (Lot # 2099).
