1891 Seated Liberty Half Dollar. MS-66 (NGC). Remarkable quality for this final year of the Seated Liberty half dollar, the surfaces are a feast for the numismatist, as they lack the usual heavy contact marks from bag handling or otherwise. Toned in a gleeful blend of lemon and russet on the obverse, the reverse more of an iridescent and deeper taupe to russet with a silver patch on the right side where less toning has formed. The coining presses finally churned out a decent number after a decade hiatus in Philadelphia for this series, although still light on the final number, 200,000 were produced. Few if any could hold a candle to this graciously toned gem.
