1876-CC Liberty Half Eagle. Winter 1-A. EF-40 (NGC). Bright honey gold with slightly deeper highlights. Evenly circulated with the small marks generally associated with a coin at the assigned grade level, though not as heavily marked as the typical EF example is found. An essentially unsung rarity in the half eagle series; the small production run of 6,887 pieces represents the low-tide mark of mintage figures for Carson City half eagles. Despite the low mintage figure, some 80 to 90 or so examples are known across the grading range, most of those in lower grades than offered here; we note here that a solitary MS-61 example of the date is the only Mint State 1876-CC half eagle certified by NGC. Another prominent rarity that will find its way into an advanced Carson City collection or half eagle set.
