- 1854 Liberty Head Double Eagle. Large Date. AU-53 (NGC). A handsome and boldly toned example awash in rich honey-orange patina. Lustrous for the grade, both sides are also boldly to sharply defined from the rims to the centers. Our multiple offerings in this sale notwithstanding, the Large Date is by far the rarer of the two date logotypes of the 1854 double eagle.
