- What a wonderful GEM AU example! This date is very scarce in all grades, with AU coins being very rare. Classic greenish-gold surfaces are frosty and the devices generally well struck for the date. The fields show a light scattering of very minute marks. The eye appeal and look is much finer than usually encountered, if you can even find any in the market place. PCGS 8, NGC 17, CAC 5. The ONLY CAC-approved coin to sell in auction was an NGC coin that sold in June 2011 for $6,325. The current Collector's Universe value is listed at $9,750. If you collect Charlotte mint, or branch mint gold, this 48-C is a wonderful coin for your holdings. There are a mere half dozen Mint State coins graded at PCGS, and few ever appear in the market!
