- "1855" (2001) Kellogg & Co. $50. Commemorative Restrike. Gold S.S. Central America Label. Proof-67 Deep Cameo (PCGS). This essentially pristine commemorative restrike $50 displays vivid golden-yellow patina and bold field to device contrast. As with others of this type, it was struck on planchets prepared from large Kellogg & Humbert gold ingots recovered from the wreck of the S.S. Central America. Dies used to strike this piece were prepared through a transfer process from the original dies used to strike Kellogg $50 gold pieces in 1855. Unlike most examples of this commemorative restrike was a special very early striking, none of which were publicly offered, that does not have the specific date of striking in the upper reverse field between the eagle and scroll.
