- GERMANY. Waldeck-Pyrmont. Taler, 1824-FW. Georg Heinrich. NGC AU-55.
Dav-925; KM-133. A briefly circulated example of this simple but attractive design type with dusky tone over both sides that contains instances of intermingled iridescent color. The absence of virtually any marks in the fields makes this piece very desirable.
Upon the unification of Waldeck and Pyrmont in 1668, Prince George Friedrich laid the foundation stone for the city park. Obviously fascinated with the exotic, a number of tropical plants were introduced, palms being among them. Over time, this unusual feature became a city fixture, so much so that the palm's likeness found its way into cultural items like the city's coins. Today, although the layout had evolved, the gardens still exist, now featuring over 330 types of palms spread over 42 acres of gardens.
Estimate: $1,000 - $1,300.
Provenance: From the Linda Collection.
