- LM-1. A wonderful, lightly circulated early half dime that is totally original and GEM caliber for the assigned AU53 grade. The eye appeal is spectacular for an AU! Only when using a strong glass can you see a few small and widely scattered ticks. Some minor die clashing and a cool die crack are visible. A light glossy luster remains on both sides. The toning is an evenly distributed, rich, original olive and teal with steely silver accents. Miss Liberty and the details are well struck, the flatness of the reverse is from the uneven striking, typical for the date, seen on even the MS65 examples. The eye appeal is excellent! PCGS 6, NGC 6, CAC 3. We cannot find a record for this coin selling in auction, and no AU53 sold in auction had CAC approval. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $9,500 and the CAC CPG value is $9,380. Any AU55 or finer clearly will cost into the five figures. A great early type, with the popular small eagle reverse. Worthy of a quality oriented type set or carefully chosen half dime collection. Cert. Number 50018701 PCGS # 4258.00
