FROM THE DR. STEPHEN DAVIDSON COLLECTION The late date Seated Liberty half dollar series makes for a great short set for the collector. The business strikes, like the Proofs were all struck in Philadelphia, and from 1879 on, the mintages for circulation were tiny, mostly lower than 10,000. In the days before Registry Sets, many collectors looking to include high grade examples in their sets, chose Proofs. This GEM has a fabulous look, totally original with a wonderfully dappled melange of color that really pops in the light. Watery reflective fields accent the eye arresting blend of color. Sharply struck up, the definition is better than often encountered and the surfaces are exceptionally clean and free of any distractions. Only 930 Proofs were struck. PCGS 30, NGC 29, CAC 9. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $2,750 and the CAC CPG is $2,520. These GEM Proof Seated halves have become so cheap in the market, take advantage and build a set. Cert.
