1875 Twenty-Cent Piece. Proof-67 * (NGC). First of only four proof deliveries in the regular issue Twenty-Cent series, the 1875 has a reported mintage of 2,790 pieces. We have no reason to doubt this total, as the issue is obtainable enough in lower grades to suggest that these coins were widely distributed in the year of issue. As a virtually pristine Superb Gem, however, the coin we offer here is an important condition rarity that is the province of the most advanced collectors. This coin is even more impressive due to the originality of toning that adorns both sides. Even olive-copper iridescence blankets the reverse, while the obverse is awash in more mottled antique-copper, powder-blue and silver-rose colors. Both sides are uniformly vibrant in finish with shimmering reflectivity shining forth nicely at all angles. There are no detracting blemishes, which feature further confirms the accuracy of the Superb Gem rating from NGC. An awe-inspiring piece.
