- Undated (ca. 1652-1674) St. Patrick Halfpenny. Vlack 1-A, W-11540. Rarity-5. Large Letters. EF-40 (PCGS). A handsome high grade example. Medium brown with glossy, smooth surfaces. Traces of the brass splash appear within the obverse crown, but an area is also seen on the king's shoulder. No bad marks, great eye appeal. This denomination is usually called a halfpenny, an appellation that dates back to at least Archbishop John Sharp's writing on the subject in 1697. They are clearly a distinct coinage from the smaller sized farthings, and overall a much scarcer one. Provenance: From the E Pluribus Unum Collection. PCGS# 46.
