- A VERY RARE coin from a mintage of only 3,150. Most of these disappeared into circulation, where they would remain for ages. Today, any higher grade example is a prize, and Mint State coins are virtually unheard of with CAC approval. This VERY CHOICE AU has an icy sleek semi-Prooflike flash in the fields and sharply struck up devices. Minimal friction from it brief time in circulation appears in the fields, but there are no serious marks or signs of mishandling that plague so many of these early Carson City coins. Pleasing original toning graces both sides, accented by the underlying brilliance, as the light golden tone comes out. Sharply struck and frosted devices give this wonderful example the complete package and awesome eye appeal. Ex Heritage, May 2008, lot 939; Legend Numismatics; private sale to our consignor. PCGS 17, NGC 3, CAC 1. This coin brought nearly $15,000 fourteen years ago, as an NGC AU55 CAC. More recently a PCGS AU55 without CAC sold for $15,600 and this coin, PCGS/CAC will bring more. The CAC CPG value is $22,800 and the Collectors Universe value is $20,000. We anticipate very strong bidding for this important coin. Only two higher grade 72-CC dollars have attained CAC approval, an MS63 and an MS65 (both those coins would sell for six figures (a PCGS MS63 without CAC sold for $192,000 in August 2021 and the MS65 has a PCGS Price Guide value of $400,000! This coin presents a fantastic opportunity for the collector. Cert. Number 45114111 PCGS # 6969
