After the passage of the Bland-Allison Act in 1878, the mint changed its focus to the churning out of hundreds of millions of Morgan dollars; the mintages of dimes, quarters, and half dollars fell dramatically. Only 10,000 circulation strike half dollars were struck in 1881. The present borderline SUPERB example has stunning, nearly cameo-like look with sharply struck frosted devices against satiny smooth, nearly Prooflike surfaces. The cartwheel luster is blazing and exceptionally brilliant highlighting the mostly untoned silver surfaces. The eye appeal is stunning! PCGS 18, NGC 8, CAC 5. There are just three graded 66+ at PCGS and less than a handful are graded higher. None have ever sold in auction. A green tag PCGS MS66 CAC sold for $8,225 in our January 2020 Regency Auction, and a PCGS/CAC MS67 sold for $24,150 in the 2009 FUN auction. Amazing that was a DOZEN years ago! A fantastic SUPERB coin that belongs in an AMAZING set! Cert. Number 39238697 PCGS # 6363.00
