Only 1,600 gold dollars were struck for circulation in 1880, and luckily for collectors, unlike other low mintage gold issues of the 1800s, Mint State pieces are the rule, not the exception, as they were saved by contemporary dealers. That by no means indicates these are common coins. Sharply struck and boldly lustrous, this MS65 has a great look. Some light lines are seen in the lower obverse field, but they do not detract from the eye appeal, noted here for accuracy only. A rich golden color further enhances the eye appeal.
PCGS 82, NGC 31. The most recent example brought $4,080 in April 2023. the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $2,500 and no doubt this coin will see spirited bidding when it crosses the auction block. Good luck.
