- 1937 Lincoln Cent. Proof-66+ RD Cameo (PCGS). CAC.
A phenomenal strike and condition rarity to represent this semi-key date Proof Lincoln cent issue. Both sides are bathed in bright, vivid mint color in light pinkish-rose. Razor sharp striking detail and silky smooth surfaces are also praiseworthy attributes, but what truly sets this coin apart from the vast majority of Proof 1937 cents is the finish. It is boldly cameoed and features strong contrast between highly reflective fields and softly frosted design elements. One of just 9,320 Proofs of the date struck in the second year of Proof coinage after the hiatus in such production that occurred from 1917 to 1935. Lincoln cents have been one of the most collected issues in American numismatics from the start of the series in 1909 -- how many of us cut their collecting teeth on Lincoln cents from circulation that we eagerly pressed into our blue Whitman folders? Since this issue was officially produced in Brilliant Proof format, this PCGS-designated Cameo specimen deserves special bidding attention and is sure to sell for a strong premium.
PCGS Population: 5; 5 finer in this category (all Proof-67 RD Cameo).
PCGS# 83338. NGC ID: 22L4.
