FROM THE M & S PETTY COLLECTION A very challenging date to find so fine! WOW. This is a fully CHOICE and high end for the grade example, more than worthy of the CAC approval. Only 26,000 were struck for circulation, and this is a date that there are fewer than three dozen known in all Mint State grades, and this PCGS MS63 CAC is among the FINEST seen! Brilliant, frosty, and boldly satiny luster glows with a warm vivacity that is visually quite engaging. As you rotate the shimmering silver surfaces in a light, there are hints of semi-reflective flash that is really captivating. Hints of the clearest gold clings to the pearly silver giving it just a fantastic look. Generally well struck with only the slightest touch of weakness on some of the star centers and on some of the eagle's wing feathers. A strong glass reveals some very minor ticks and marks, but these do not detract from the outstanding visual allure of this high end CHOICE Mint State example. Fresh to market and housed in an older blue tag holder. Ex private sale from CAC to Bruce Morelan, via Legend Numismatics; Legend Set #2; private sale to our consignor via Legend Numismatics. PCGS 6, NGC 2, CAC 3. The ONLY MS63 to sell was a PCGS graded coin in the July 2005 Bowers Sale of the Rod Sweet Collection. Missing from the extensive Rudolf Collection (Stack's, May 2003). The current CAC CPG value is $49,000 and the PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $50,000. We note that PCGS has graded just two finer, a 64 and 64+. The MS64 sold in the June 2014 sale of the Gene Gardner Collection, realizing $141,000. When this coin crosses the block, and the fierce bidding action ends, and the hammer falls, we would not at all be shocked if the published levels and our estimates are left in the dust. Be prepared!
