- Tompkins Die Stage 2/1, Rea et al. Die State P. <strong>Tompkins Plate Coin</strong>. Wisps of peripheral reddish-gold iridescence frame otherwise brilliant surfaces for this bright, lustrous, and frosty Choice AU example. The strike is razor sharp to full throughout, and we note only trivial high point rub and wispy handling marks from a brief stint in active circulation.<p>Sharing its obverse die with the 1834 B-3 and B-5, and its reverse die with the 1835 B-1, the 1834 Browning-3 is obtainable in most grades. With only a few Mint State examples known, however, Choice About Uncirculated coins certified at the AU-58 level, as here, qualify for the lower reaches of Condition Census. Our consignor reports that, since the reverse die state of this variety follows the latest seen in the 1835 B-1 pairing, the 1834 B-3 was almost certainly struck in 1835, and contributed to the mintage reported for calendar year 1835.
