- Lovely Gem Cameo Proof 1867 Silver Dollar
1867 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. Proof-65+ Cameo (PCGS). CAC.
Offered is a highly desirable condition rarity among Proof Motto Liberty Seated dollars. Warmly and attractively toned in iridescent olive-orange and pearl-gray, both sides readily reveal a nicely cameo finish. The strike is razor sharp throughout, and the surfaces are very smooth for a type that is typically offered no finer than Proof-64.
625 Proof silver dollars were produced in the Philadelphia Mint in 1867, many survivors of which have been maimed by hairlines and polishing, though often with good intentions. The present example is delightfully free from distracting blemishes of any sort and is an outstanding representative of the Liberty Seated with Motto design type.
Provenance: From the Collection of James Allaire Millholland, 1842-1911.
PCGS Population: 2; 2 finer in this category (Proof-67 Cameo finest).
CAC Population: 5; 3. The former total includes coins certified both Proof-65 Cameo and Proof-65+ Cameo.
