- 1872 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. AU-58 (PCGS). CAC. Lovely deep honey and light pinkish-rose patina greets the viewer from both sides of this sharply defined, noticeably prooflike example. These are scarce, circulation strike quarter eagle production in the Philadelphia Mint remaining limited throughout the 1870s since gold coins had still not returned to commerce in the East and Midwest since their withdrawal in late 1861.
