- THE CORONET COLLECTION Ex D. Brent Pogue Collection, as noted on the insert. From the WORLD CLASS Pogue Collection, you know that it has to be the BEST of the BEST! This EXCPEPTIONAL Lafayette dollar is SUPERB in every sense of the word and ranks near the TOP OF THE POP! A gorgeous iridescent pastel toning of reddish-rose with olive and antique silver hues blend together on both sides, with lilac-blue toning scattered within the dominant hues. A strong luster makes the colors jump off the SUPERB quality surfaces when the light hits at the right angles. Every detail is sharply impressed and the surfaces are nearly flawless. The Lafayette dollar is the only silver dollar struck in the early commemorative period, and the funds raised were dedicated to erecting a statue to Lafayette in Paris for the 1900 International Exposition. Congress authorized 50,000 silver dollars to be struck, and sold for $2 each. Some 14,000 remained unsold decades later and were melted down, leaving a net mintage of 36,026. From that mintage, this one ranks as one of the FINEST KNOWN. PCGS 4, NGC 10, CAC 3. This coin sold in March 2020 for $60,000. Prior to that, there none had been sold since 2015. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $78,500 and the CAC CPG value is $79,200. Just two examples have graded finer at PCGS, neither of which have sold. If one were to sell, it would likely cross six figures! This spectacular SUPERB GEM will delight anyone working on a top ranking commem set. Good luck. Cert. Number 38634071 PCGS # 9222
