This is a lovely O-101. The 1801 half dollar was struck using two die pairs, and only 30,389 were produced after a four year hiatus. As a scarce date and the first year of issue for the Draped Bust, Large Eagle half dollar, demand has always been strong for this date. Not only that, but most went into circulation. High grade pieces are RARE! This lovely example is richly toned on both sides with deep shades of red and blue. A hint of semi-reflective, nearly Prooflike luster clings to the surfaces, providing a great backlight to the patina, bringing out the subtle shades. Light wear is seen, but this coin's short time in circulation failed to impair the excellent eye appeal. Even with the aid of a strong glass, you will not be able to find any serious contact or marks of any kind that detract from the awesome eye appeal. PCGS 5, NGC 4, CAC 3. There is no recent auction data (the most recent APR is six years old, and it was six years after the second most recent APR). The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $16,000 and the CAC CPG value is $16,600. Clearly coins like this do not appear with frequency and this is an important opportunity not to be missed! Good luck. Cert. Number 25268824 PCGS # 6064
