FROM THE DR. STEPHEN DAVIDSON COLLECTION A truly majestic and totally original GEM, you would think this and the previous lot were kept together for ages, as the toning closely matches the 1889 offered above. Wonderfully reflective, watery mirrored fields, flash below the toning, giving life to the beautiful colors. The devices are sharply struck and stand out nicely against the fields, but not enough for a CAM designation. The eye appeal is excellent. Only 600 Proofs were struck of this final year of issue. PCGS 19, NGC 24, CAC 3. There has not been one sold in auction since April 2015. More recently a non-CAC PR65 sold in our May 2021 Regency Auction for $2,468. Both the PCGS and CAC CPG figures are similar, listed at $2,500 and $2,520 respectively. Scarce finer, this GEM will make a great addition to any type or date set! Cert. Number 25516688 PCGS # 6452
