- Rum'n'Cola Collection. Bolender-3, BB-234 (R.3), die state III that shows a small lump beneath the uppermost right star on the obverse. The condition census for B-3 indicates fewer than a handful of mint-state survivors, and with this coin so close to mint-state (no grade gets closer than AU-58+, after all), this might well be a new entry into such a census.
Curiously, this specimen bears a resemblance to the well-documented Robison dollar graded MS-62, as modest, satiny luster promotes champagne-gold toning overall, preoccupied by surrounding bands of denim-blue and orange coloration. Full luster roams the reverse while the obverse shows subdued cartwheel effect, seemingly never interrupted within the fields. That said, scattered tiny surface nicks and intrusions, most notably in the obverse right field, probably add up to too much contact to permit a full mint-state grade. A grading "plus" may be splitting hairs yet the light abrasions seem to be the impetus for NGC's near-mint judgement call.
