- Noteworthy Second Mint State 1873-S $20 Gold Scarce Open 3 Date Logotype 1873-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. Open 3. MS-61 (PCGS). Beautiful honey-apricot surfaces are originally preserved with full satiny mint luster. Impressively sharp in strike overall, and better produced in this regard than many examples of this issue that we have handled over the years. Our multiple offerings in this and other recent sales notwithstanding, the Open 3 is by far the scarcer date logotype of the 1873-S double eagle issue.
