- THE BOYLSTON COLLECTION, PART IV A very important, underrated, and underappreciated condition rarity. The 1874-S saw a mintage of nearly 400,000, but essentially no collectors concerned themselves with mintmarks at the time, so few Mint State coins were saved at the time of issue, and these are VERY RARE in MS64 or finer grade. This VERY CHOICE example has a fantastic, wholly original look. A strong underlying luster glows boldly on both sides, accented by a brilliant cartwheel that rolls on both sides. A dusting of pale, pastel iridescent champagne-gold caresses the surfaces, lightly dusted across obverse and reverse and is wonderfully enhanced when the swirling brilliance catches the light. Sharply struck and wonderfully preserved, the eye appeal is excellent for the assigned grade. PCGS 11, NGC 12, CAC 1. This is NOT the coin that has sold previously, most recently in November 2018 for $8,400. We also believe that the published levels are WRONG. Just four examples have graded higher at PCGS. We sold a PCGS MS65 without CAC for $21,125 in October 2021. We know this MS64 CAC will be a delight to any advanced collector, one look and you will see why! Do not let the low published levels fool you, bid accordingly. Cert. Number 25698095 PCGS # 6348
