- SPECTACULAR POP 1 the CAC designation and grade. Truly worthy of both the grade and the CAC designation, as this coin is a LOOKER!
Unblemished mint bloom and frost coat satiny fields and very well struck motifs (which is unusual for a JR-5 variety). A tiny old time faint line on Liberty's cheek is all that keeps this piece from a higher-grade classification, in our opinion (no guarantees). Toned in beautiful fiery pumpkin, soft rose, gold and pearl-gray hues.
In 1830, the mint pressed into service an unused 1829 obverse die, repunching the last two digits with a 30. On late die states like this coin, the underlying digits are faint.
PCGS 1, NGC 2, CAC 1. Just four are finer. This coin last sold in December 2022 in our Regency sale for $14,100. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $20,000 and the CAC CPG value is listed at $19,200. There are 2 in MS66 and 2 in MS67 finer than this one; the only 66 to sell sold in May 2005 and the last time a 67 sold was the Pogue coin in February 2016 for $64,625. An important opportunity for the collector to acquire a CONDITION CENSUS example for their collection. Best of luck!
