- MEXICO. War of Independence. Chilpanzingo-Morelos. 8 Reales, ND (1813). PCGS VG-08 Gold Shield. cf.KM-285.2 (for basic type). Chilpanzingo type A countermark, hand holding bow and arrow between quiver with arrows, sword and bow on obverse and Morelos Type A countermark, stars above and below monogram on reverse. All on a cast silver 1810-MoHJ 8 Reales. The Morelos countermark is normally found on the obverse, obliterating the king's face. RAREand interesting to find a War for Independence countermark on the reverse of a host. Host coin typical crude manufacture, Morelos countermark crude, Chilpanzingo countermark bold but incomplete and slightly flattened from the Morelos countermark. Deeply toned. A treat for the specialist of War for Independence. Estimate: $150 - $250.
